Looking #3 – Tim Lawrence

Tim Lawrence is a photographer based in the South West and takes a variety of really quite awesome images. He is also a big fan of Holga cameras which makes him alright in my book….

You can see more of his work at the Tim Lawrence Photography website but for now here is a selection of his stuff.

Listening #1 – Goldmund: The Malady of Elegance

So , I’m occasionally going to put up an album or a song that I’m listening to a lot, that may give you an idea of the sort of things I listen to whilst I’m working.

I listen to music all day every day, so its an important part of my working process. I’m not going to put a review or anything like that up, I’ve never been too great at explaining why I like certain types of music. I think its fairly easy to say that I’ll only mention stuff here that I love.

Goldmund‘s albums can be bought direct through Type Records.
I heard his stuff by chance, I can’t even recall where and have been listening to it alot ever since.

Looking #2 – Buck Shots: Peter Sutherland

I saw this shots quite by accident one evening whilst idly skimming through the internet. Peter Sutherland is a photographer and filmmaker who became interested in taking photos of deer after seeing one for the window from his mother’s kitchen in Colorado.

I think the contrast between wild animals and suburbia has always been something that has interested me and these photos illustrate that odd visual juxtaposition.

Have a look at Peter Sutherland’s website for more of his photography.

These images also reminded me of driving home at about 3 in the morning last November and someone calling me on my phone, I pulled over to answer the call but just missed it.
As I sat on the verge checking the number I had the sudden feeling of being watched, which at that time of day is never a good feeling. I looked up out of my windscreen to see an adult male deer stood directly in front of my car looking at me, its breath hanging in the air, eyes glinting in the headlights.
It stayed there for about a minute and then ran.

Looking #1 – Michael Clayton

I tend to not get to the cinema too much so I only got round to seeing this film recently. The directorial debut of Tony Gilroy, who wrote all three of the Bourne films, stars George Clooney, Tilda Swinton and Tom Wilkinson.

Its an interesting film, which has a genuinely original closing credit sequence but I was really taken by the cinematography particularly in the opening sequence.

Here are a few shots from it:

Site Re-Design

So after much delay and faffing my portfolio site has finally been re-designed.

I wanted to have a site which reflected more than just the designs that I have made but that also contains little bits and pieces of the things that go into my work. This means that there will be more about how I go about making them. So I will be putting up images, books or music that I’m inspired by as well as my latest designs. There’s even a possibility that I might start putting a few work in progress sketches as time goes on…You never know.

So, if you’ve made it here and are reading this, thanks for stopping by and I hope you have a good visit.
